Ruby’s servant heart lead her to love and care for others all the days of her life. As a young woman Ruby attended Physicians and Surgeons Hospital School of Nursing in San Antonio, TX. She went on to work as a nurse at Morritz Memorial Hospital in Ganado, TX.
Ruby is preceded in death by husband Melvin Henderson, whom was taken from her by a tragic accident and Tommy Mercer Summers whom she celebrated 51 wonderful years with.
Together Ruby and Tommy raised their sons, built Sumco trucking, and enjoyed a life full of gardening and family. Ruby could always be found where children were. She spent countless hours in the grandstand at Youth Rodeos. She served as a Boy Scout den mother, official Little League Baseball scorekeeper, custom seamstress for the best Rodeo attire in Texas, Vacation Bible School volunteer, and her favorite position Nursery Volunteer at Fellowship of Montgomery.
Ruby was an Astros fan and could always be counted on for a “Little Prayer” when they needed a run.
Ruby is preceded in death by parents William and Lillie Mae Utz Gates, sisters Shirley Gates Sbrusch and Patricia Gates Merrill. She is survived by her sons Michael Andrew Henderson, Gary Wayne Summers and wife Lisa, grandchildren Marissa Summers Scholl and husband Chip, Jamie Henderson, and Katherine Henderson, great granddaughters Ledy Kathlene Messina and Victoria Mercer Scholl, siblings Evelyn Michalke, Willie Marthiljohni, Billy Gates, Ronny Gates, and Danny Gates.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Fellowship of Montgomery with Dr. Brian Roberson officiating with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe.
