Sallie Clare Hastings

Sallie Dollman Hastings, age 77, of Conroe, Texas departed this life Sunday night, June 24, 2012 at The Oasis in Conroe, Texas. She had been in declining health due to Alzheimer's Disease. Sallie was born December 1, 1936 in Syracuse, New York. She was the daughter of the late Virgil and Nancy Dollman of Wheeling, WV. On August 1, 1957 she married Harold K.(Bing) Hastings, who survives. They had celebrated 54 years of marriage. Sallie and Bing raised 5 children: Becky Severino and husband Sam of Elkins, WV; Ruth Donovan and husband Wes of Pittsburgh, PA; Rob Hastings of Tucson, AZ; Stuart Hastings and wife Lori of Beaumont, TX and Nancy Crow and husband Jed of Montgomery, TX. Sallie also had 7 grandchildren who held a special place in her heart: Dustin Donovan and wife Beth, Justine Severino McCray and husband Nathan, Leah Donovan, Anthony Severino, Jacob Stickler and fiancé Shelby Prewitt, Jessica Stickler and Patrick Donovan. She is survived by 2 sisters and their families: Pris Pfanstiel and husband Jim and Nancy McKenzie and husband Rod. Sallie lived in many parts of the country including Massachusetts, Iowa, West Virginia and California, where she graduated from San Mateo High School. She attended West Virginia University and later graduated from Case Western Reserve with a degree in nursing and later worked at Laurel Wood Hospital as a substance abuse nurse. She continued to live in many parts of the country with her young family: Wheeling WV, Houston TX, Pittsburgh, PA and finally settled in Conroe, TX. Sallie had a passion for people. She was happiest with a cup of herbal tea and a lengthy discussion of the human condition. She taught her children to be kind, compassionate and loving. They are grateful for the family core she and Bing created for them and they continue to be close and committed to one another. Sallie was active in her church and in many service organizations. Recently she was a member of The Gathering at First United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 28th, 2 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Conroe, Texas. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the memorial service. The family would also like to express their deepest gratitude to Amy Huckman and Joy Yuckum for their unconditional love, care and devotion to Sallie.
