ROGERS, SHAWNNA CHRISTINE: 51, of Pflugerville Texas, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022, from complications of Covid-19. A native of Texas born November 7, 1970, she is the daughter of Charles Waylon & Barbara Badger Rogers. She attended public school in Texas graduating from Plano Senior High School in 1989. She earned a degree in Early Childhood Education from Texas A&M University in 1994. She obtained her Masters in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Missouri in 1996. Shawnna finished her training at Johns Hopkins Children Center to become a Child Life Specialist, working in their Oncology department until 2003. She then moved back to Plano Texas to be closer to her dad and worked in the NICU and CCBD departments at Children’s Medical Center Dallas until 2009. When asked how she did this type of job for so many years, she once said “I can’t make them well, but I can make today better”. In 2010, she became an ALC Special Education Teacher Homebound at Plano Independent School District. She worked in that position until 2018. In 2019 after the death of her father, she moved to Pflugerville Texas to be closer to her cousin/sister Donna Meek and started work as an Education Advocate for children with disabilities at Texas Education Advocacy LLC in Austin. In 2021, she became a volunteer for CASA of Travis County, Inc where she served as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian ad Litem) for children under the managing conservatorship of the court. Shawnna was loved by many and has touched more lives than most. Not only did she selflessly love her family and friends, but she also devoted her career to helping countless children and families. She has blessed so many. She has now rejoined her mother Barbara, who she lost almost 22 years ago and her dad Charles (her Giant), who she lost 4 years ago. She was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Waylon Davis. Shawnna is survived by her half-brother, Bill Davis, her aunts, Joyce Sissom, Kathryn Barclay, and Bedie Post, as well many cousins, lots of great friends, and her “fur babies”. There will be a private Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. Donations in Shawnna’s memory can be made to:
