

Sidney “Sid” Beall Griffith Andrist, 82 years young, of Willis, Texas passed away on March 13, 2023 in Tacoma, Washington with her daughters by her side. Sidney was born on April 23, 1940 at 12:47 a.m. at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D. C. to Charles B Griffith and Dorothy M Markham Griffith.
Sid lived life to the fullest and had many hobbies. She enjoyed flying, traveling, being on the water (beaches or cruises), tennis, ice skating, decorating, arts and crafts, interior design,gardening, cooking, making jewelry, playing bridge with friends, visiting museums, and most of all shopping!
In 1953 through 1955 Sid attended Western Junior HIgh School in Washington, D.C.. She was Treasurer of her seventh grade class, in Chorus all three years, Pep Club in eighth grade, Pep Club and Hall Patrol in ninth grade.
In 1959 through 1960 Sid attended Mount Ida Junior College in Newton, Massachusetts where she studied, completed and graduated as an “Airline Stewardess” with honors. She was known by her peers as the “Very attractive, stately gal from Washington, D.C.”, never a harsh word uttered from her lips, a diligent worker and three cheers for her wonderful and hard work as editor of the Yearbook. No airline could resist her and her peers say she was a wonderful friend to all. During her time spent in Junior College she was voted most likely to succeed. She was in the Student Government (Council), Editor of the Ye Idler (Yearbook), Theatre Club, Unity Club, Fashion Show and she went to Bermuda for her Senior trip with the graduating class provided by American Airlines. Her mother, Mrs. Charles B. Griffith, was one of the few Patronesses that attended.
In 1968 Sid completed Flight school for Private, Commercial, Instrument and Multi Engine Ratings. She had her own charter air service from 1965 through 1970 flying out of Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas. She flew in the Southwest and in Central America.
May 21, 1976 she attended University of Maryland University College to complete her training for Real Estate Principles and Practices for Salesmen. She passed her board testing and began her career in June 1976.
In 1977 Sid completed the Jean D’Albert - Orlane qualifying her to advise on Treatment and Makeup. In 1978 Sid passed her Board of Cosmetology school and became a licensed Demonstrator in Cosmetics. She furthered her training by completing Revlon Training School in September 1978.
1984 through 1987 Sid was a successful self-employed real estate agent selling homes and commercial real estate and very involved in property management.
She began her travel agent career in 1988 when she completed Travel Career School in Panama City, Florida. She was a full-time travel agent from 1992 through 2000 working for CSI Travel and Destinations Travel.
In 2001 she had additional training in cosmetics and retail services when she became certified in Skin care, Body care and Colour by Clarins Paris.
Sid was predeceased in death by her father Charles Beall Griffith, mother Dorothy Marie Griffith and her husband-love of her life Anson “Andy” Gordon Andrist of 27 years. She is survived by a loving family, daughter Sheryl Lee Andrist, bonus son Dylan Andersen, daughter Amy Lynn Chatman and husband Charles Chatman, Godmother to her daughters Vennie “Snooks” Wolfe and Godsister to her daughters Laura Woods whom she treasured and loved dearly. She leaves behind an extended Andrist family, numerous grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. There will be a Celebration of Life following the services at Sid’s home 7860 Pollard Road Willis, Texas 77318 from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m.. The daughters would love to have everyone come by and cross over the bridge saying a prayer on Mom’s behalf.
From the bottom of our heart we appreciate your years spent with our mother as she was one of a kind, full of love and will never be forgotten. We are blessed for each one of you being a part of our lives.
