Wanda W. McNeill

Wanda McNeill, age 87, passed away in The Woodlands on October 7, 2014 after many years of decreased capacity. Wanda was born and raised in Mingo County, West Virginia. After graduating from High School she moved to Charleston, WV. There she worked for the Charleston Gazette until she married Roy McNeill. She then focused on being a full time homemaker raising three daughters while being active in the community. Wanda lent her time, talents and in many cases held leadership positions in the YWCA, PTA, Women’s Auxiliary of the ASME, and various groups at Christ Church Methodist. She will be remembered for her love of gardening and flower arranging. Her children will remember her creativeness like her homemade Halloween costumes, and crafts she taught to her Brownie and Girl Scout troops. She will always be remembered for her love of cooking, canning and homemade hard candy.

When her husband, Roy, retired from Union Carbide they moved to New Braunfels, TX. There Wanda was an artist with the New Braunfels’ Art League and held various leadership positions including president. Wanda will be dearly missed by her family, friends and caretakers. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Roy McNeill, her mother Floramel Myers, and her father JW Whitten. She is survived by her daughters and their families, Julie and Joe Tilton, Nina and Ed Richburg, Anita and Mike Hobbs. Her grandchildren Christina Benfield and her husband Chris and great granddaughter Lily Ottinger, Melissa Enloe and her husband Adam, Malcolm Richburg, Justen Hobbs and Jacob Hobbs. She is also survived by her brothers William M. Whitten and his wife Janet, Thomas Myers and his wife Vaughn, and James Myers and his wife Sandy along with many close nieces, nephews and cousins. Both the services and internment will be at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303. The visitation will be held Friday, October 10, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the funeral will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Wanda’s beloved New Braunfels Art League: New Braunfels Art League, 239 W.
