

There will be private grave side services on Tuesday, January 26th with the Reverend Jeff Berger of First Baptist Conroe, officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are by Cashner Funeral Home, Conroe, Texas.
Wendell was born in Dallas, Georgia in 1929 to J T and Alma Lester Gamel. He married Betty Hagood on December 20th, 1955 in Crestview, FL. He is a proud alumnus of Georgia Institute of Technology. He served in the Air Force after graduating from college. He was stationed in Morocco during the Korean war.
Wendell was devoted to his church, First Baptist Conroe where he was a long-time deacon. Prior to moving to Montgomery Texas, he attended Memorial Drive Baptist Church where he served on various committees and was also as a long-time deacon. His faith was important to him. He left a legacy of faith in Jesus Christ to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Wendell was devoted to his family. He was married to Betty Hagood Gamel for 65 years. He was proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s and their spouses’ accomplishments. He loved to tell all he met about their activities.
Wendell spent his 30 plus year career as an engineer, entrepreneur and executive at Tech Sym Corporation, a Houston Texas based company traded on the NY stock exchange, from which he retired as President and Chairman of the Board in 2000. He travelled the world and met with many foreign dignitaries. Tech Sym was a major supplier and manufacturer of defense and electronic equipment. After retirement, he moved from Hedwig Village to April Sound where he enjoyed playing golf and participating in the men’s Bible study with friends and neighbors.
Wendell was successful in life because of his energy and keen intellect. He never met a stranger. He had an ability to speak intelligently with anyone he met on a wide variety of subjects. To his children, he was the smartest person they knew.
Wendell is preceded in death by his parents, JT and Alma Gamel of Dallas, GA; brother Max Barry Gamel and sister Dorothy Virginia Allen.
Wendell is survived by wife Betty Hagood Gamel, son Dan and wife Deborah Gamel, son Keith and wife Laurie Gamel, daughter Rebecca and husband Charles Mueller, his brother Terry and wife Joan Gamel, and sister Sarah and husband Joe Belflower, grandchildren Jill Wegner and husband Aaron, Travis Gamel, Bethany Simmons and husband Will, Kristin Gamel, Kelsey Gamel, Will Mueller and wife Taryn, Jonathan Gamel and wife Kaitlin, Meredith Coulter and husband Jake, Kirby Gamel, Mackenzie Gamel, Trent Gamel and Elizabeth Mueller; great grandchildren Ada Wegner, Cora Wegner, Maggie Simmons, Miles Wegner, Maeson Grace Coulter and Emily Simmons and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church Conroe. The family of Wendell Gamel wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Always Best Care The Woodlands and Amedisys Hospice.
