William Dean Allen Sr.

Dean was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana then moved with his family to Texas City, Texas where he attended public schools. He joined the Civil Air Patrol where he received the Billy Mitchell Award in 1967. He then attended New Mexico State University, The College of the Mainland, and The University of Houston and finally earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Comparative Political Systems from the Franklin University in May of 1977.

Mr. Allen is survived by his loving Mother, Hazel Dorothy Allen (Reese), his three sons William Dean Allen Jr, Robert Edward Allen, and William Edward Allen, his sister Evelyn Miles and niece Christina Spear.

He was preceded in death by his father William Edward Allen and his nephew Roland William Miles.

Dean was an avid genealogy buff. He has researched his ancestry back to find out he was the Great-Great Grandson of a Confederate soldier and a descendant of Jim Bowie who died at the Alamo. He was extremely proud of his family heritage. He was a proud member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Mr. Allen was an entrepreneur, a Civil Air Cadet Officer, a decorated combat Veteran who served on the Demilitarized Zone in Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division, served two tours in Vietnam with the 101ST Airborne Division, then later with the 716th Military Police Battalion in Saigon. He spent a few years in the Texas Oil Industry followed by a 30-year career as a Management Consultant to small businesses across the globe. He was an active member of many Veterans, Civic and Fraternal Organizations who held too many leadership positions to list. He devoted the latter portion of his life to political consulting, writing and establishing Freedom Source University to defend the Freedom of Speech and preserve American Culture. Dean proudly served four years in the United States Army. During his time in the Army, he proudly volunteered for 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. He also served in Indochina and Korea. During his years in the service, he was awarded numerous medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 device, 2 Overseas Bars, an Air Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.

Dean’s service began with serving in Pho Bai, Vietnam and ended at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico where he was Honorably Discharged. During his time in the service some of his duties were Guard, Watchman and Military Policeman. He also served proudly in the South Carolina State Guard from April 19, 2003, to April 18, 2009, serving in the Honors Detachment where he performed Military Honors at over 200 funerals. Dean was an expert with the M-16 and a proud lifetime member of the NRA. He proudly maintained that we have a Constitutional Right to Bear Arms. He was a proud lifetime member of the VFW, where he advocated for Veterans. He was a past Post Commander of VFW Post 9273 at Donaldson Center where he received the All State Post Award. He was also Post Commander for a time at Hendersonville, North Carolina Post 2417. He was also a past Elected Grand State Chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for South Carolina for 3 years. He was a Captain of the Royal Lao Airborne, of South Carolina which is a group of professionals who exhibit military bearing and hold true to the core.

Dean was also a member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge earning Rank Title of Distinction of Scottish Rite Master Craftsman from The Supreme Council 33°, Southern District, U.S.A. Dean was President of the U.S. Amateur Ballroom Dance Association for 11 years and truly enjoyed ballroom dance. Mr. Allen was a member of the Republican Party since 1960 where he held numerous offices. Within the Anderson County Republican Party in South Carolina, Dean served as Precinct Executive Committeeman and County Party Secretary. He was proud to be a delegate to the State Convention many, many years.

Mr. Allen had many hobbies including flying, gunsmithing, ballroom dance, genealogy, politics, history, world travel, classical music, reading and writing. He was a published author many times over. Many of the books he wrote over the years were political books. He also enjoyed spending time with his family whenever possible and everywhere he traveled he brought his Bible.

A funeral service will be held at Sosebee Mortuary & Crematory South Chapel on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. Visitation will be prior to the service at the Mortuary from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00P.M.

Mr. Allen will have an open visitation on Friday, March 24, 2023, from 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

An additional service will be held in Conroe Texas at Metcalf Funeral Home, Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. A private burial will follow later at Houston National Cemetery.
