Dorothea Marie Hazelton of Lauderhill, Fl departed this life on February 11, 2021. She was born on October 3, 1930 in New York City. She was the daughter of Gustaf John Winfield Zimmermann and Anna Maria (Kass) Zimmermann. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Marie Spielman of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, by two nephews, Robert Spielman of Plains, Pennsylvania and Glenn Wynn Zimmermann, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and by three nieces, Kathryn Ann Spielman of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, Diane Marie Schnaars of Slatington, Pennsylvania and Ann Lynn Fishburne of Ridgeland, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her longtime companion, William L Ness. Dorothea was involved in advertising throughout most of her professional life. As a talented artist, she began her career by sketching many of the drawings that appeared in newspaper advertisements for major department stores in the Miami area. She later became the advertising director for Silver Springs, during the period when the park was operated by ABC Paramount. Dorothea was also an avid saltwater sport fisherman and held, for a time, the record for catching the world’s largest allison tuna. She was also actively devoted to the support of the US Armed Services, and regularly placed wreaths on the graves of the soldiers buried at South Florida National Cemetery. Until her recent illness, she led an active life of enthusiastic political and community engagement and was a source of strength and support for those who knew and loved her. There will be no funeral but a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being made under the care of Kraeer Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
