He was born on April 16, 1946 in New Canaan, Connecticut, the son of George and Beatrice Knobel.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Joni, and his stepdaughter, Alexa, who cared for him until his death. He is also survived by a sister, Candy, a son, Glen, a daughter, Lynn and five grandchildren, Jordan, Jared, Justin, Shelby, and Garrett.
Gary was a much loved and much requested fourth and fifth grade teacher at Hunt Elementary School the entire 38 years of his career. He always said after attending 16 schools and moving all over the country and Germany as an “Air Force Brat” that he had no desire to be moving to different places in his job. He was an outstanding teacher, and a motivator and mentor to many.
He also owned a successful business called Video Masters, which he established in 1985. Additionally, he was a baseball coach for his son and grandchildren‘s baseball teams.
He was an avid Miami Dolphins fan, tennis player, magician and Republican who loved to debate politics with anyone who dared to verbally spar with him.
He had a wonderful sense of humor, which he never lost, even throughout significant health issues and trials. His kindness and devotion to his wife were something movies are made of.
There will be no viewing, as per Gary’s request.
