Jackie as she was affectionately called had a heart of gold and was loved by everyone.
Jackie received her primary school education at St. Marys Catholic school in St Croix, US Virgin Islands. The family migrated back to the United States where her education continued and she graduated in 1982, from Ross S. Sterling High School in Texas. After graduating she and her mom relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1983. Jackie continued her education at The Southern Business School in Lauderhill, Florida where she majored in Computer Programming and obtained an Associate of Science Degree in 1985.
Jackie started her career as a Legal Assistant at the State Attorney's Office, 17th Judicial Circuit Court in September of 1986 in the city of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was an employee with the State for over 36 years.
Jackie had several hobbies such a decorating, crafting, sewing and baking. She loved to bake sweet treats for family and friends to enjoy especially during the holiday season. Jackie also loved to shop and at times throughout the years Suzanne, Eleanor, Colette or Angela accompanied her for the adventure or as she called it “retail therapy”. After a long day of shopping, you can find her dining at one of her favorite restaurants “Bahama Breeze, Bonefish Grill, Olive Garden, IHOP, or First Watch”, just to name a few.
Although, she had no biological children, her love for them was like no uother. She had many god children (Brittney, Anthony, Stephen, David, Marshall, Sydney, Sherrelle, Roddrica and Rodney) to name a few. They all called her Aunty Jackie. She loved, nurtured and cared for many of them. She never missed celebrating a milestone occasion such as birthdays, graduations and treated all her god children like they were her own. She shared a special bond with them and loved them all.
Jackie dedicated her life to Christ and was baptized on 2/16/2002, at the Fort Lauderdale, SDA church. Jackie served her local church in many capacities. She was a member of the Infinite Praise Team, Deaconess, worked in Treasury, Sabbath school teacher for children in the lower division and a Path Finders Counselor. Jackie, devoted her time and talents in service to the kingdom of God and was part of a group which took mission trips to Haiti & Africa to help the less fortunate.
Jackie enjoyed life. She had a special place in her heart for family and friends. She held a lifelong friendship with Claudia, Petula, Eleanor & Colette. She was a confidant and true friend who passed on words of wisdom to those who listened. She enjoyed spending time with her colleagues. Throughout the years she developed a special bond with Petula, Jackie Ramos, Cari & Cheryl) also known as the “FAB FIVE”. Since Cari retired, two more colleagues Michael & Walter have joined the group. They are now the “Magnificent Seven”.
As she approached another year of life, Jackie wanted to enjoy her 59th birthday, so she planned a cruise with her cousin, Angela. She was excited about the islands they were going to visit (Aruba, Bonaire, La Romana and Amber Cove in DR). The cruise began on her actual birthday 3/18/23. About 4 days into the cruise after visiting the islands of Aruba & Bonaire she became ill. She was provided medical attention on the ship, but due to the nature of her illness, she was transported to a local hospital (Central Medical La Romana) in Dominican Republic. Her cousin never left her side and they spent 4 days in the hospital before returning to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on 3/26/23. Upon their return to the United States, Jackie was hospitalized immediately at Broward Health Hospital where she received care and treatment.
On Friday, April 28, 2023, God put her to sleep.
