Marie A. Kanellis, age 69, of Coral Springs, Florida, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, partner, and friend to many, passed away on September 13, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her family. She is at peace after battling cancer for over a year.
Marie was born on July 10, 1956, in Troy, New York, to the late Robert Klein and Eleanor (Kearns) Klein. She is survived by her partner of over 20 years, Robert Lowell, her four children Amanda (Dan) Talham, Dean Kanellis, David Kanellis, and Kolby Kanellis (Michelle Skomsky), and her granddaughter, her sunshine, Raegan Talham, siblings Karen (Dan) Foley, Carole (Lou) Caputo, and William Klien.
Marie graduated from Troy High school in 1974 where she also earned her nursing certification. Marie worked as an LPN for several years, at Leonard Hospital and then at Riverview Pediatrics, taking a break from nursing to raise her children. During that time, she was still the “family nurse.” Years later, Marie returned to nursing at Vanderheyden in Averill Park. Nursing was her calling. Taking care of others was who she was.
Marie was also an avid crafter. Starting when she was very young, Marie loved to create homemade, heartfelt gifts for her family and friends. She was very talented in ceramics, macramé, and most famously, needlepoint.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 10:30am to noon at Sacred Heart Church in Troy. Funeral mass, Father John J. Yanis officiating, will follow at noon with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Troy.
Marie’s family would like to extend our sincere thanks to her entire health care team, especially Jodi & Michael, Dr. Kalman, Evelyn, Meredith, Brittany, and the entire team at VITAS Hospice. Everything you did so that mom could remain at home was the greatest gift anyone could give us.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any local hospice organization.
