Phyllis Scott Guptill, 95, died Thursday, August 27, 2020 at home surrounded by family. As a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
Phyllis was born June 16, 1925 to Fred B. Scott and Dorothy Colby Scott. Phyllis was educated in local schools in Lawrence, Massachusetts and graduated from business school. During World War II, she worked at Ayer Mill in Lawrence and later after the war, she worked as a legal secretary.
In October 1946, she married her lifelong sweetheart, Robert Guptill. Together, Bob and Phyllis happily raised three children in North Andover, Massachusetts. Family was central to Phyllis’ life and the family shares many happy memories. Some of the fondest memories are those from a small lakeside cottage in New Hampshire where Bob and Phyllis would spend summers.
After Bob retired, the couple moved to Clemson, South Carolina. Phyllis volunteered with her church and in the local assisted living facility and enjoyed the company of many close friends in the community. She and Bob took time to travel throughout the USA and across the globe. As an avid reader, Phyllis always had a book tucked in her traveling bag. After her beloved husband of 66 years died, Phyllis moved to Duxbury, Massachusetts before joining her son and family in Coral Springs, Florida.
Phyllis’s family has always been the most important and loved part of her life and she follows her husband Robert and her daughter Janet into Heaven. On Earth, she now leaves, with much love, daughter Cynthia Desjardins (Ronald) of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey; son, Brian Guptill (Ellen) of Coral Springs, FL; son-in-law Douglas Macleod of Plymouth, MA. Grandchildren: Christie Praul (Josh); Adam Desjardins (Kristen); Jean Anderson (Michael); Scott Guptill (Jung-Won); Shelley MacLeod Bermudez (Jaime); and nine great grandchildren: Autumn, William, and Gwendolyn Praul; Mac and Jackson Desjardins; Avery and Julian Bermudez; and Kelly and Caitlin Anderson. She also leaves her sister Dorothy Wood of Hardwick, Massachusetts.
The family will plan a memorial service at a later time. Donations in Phyllis’s honor can be made to Catholic Hospice, 14875 NW 77th Ave. Suite 100, Miami Lake, FL 33014 www.catholichospice.com
