It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Santos Carreras, a cherished soul who left this world on November 6th, 2023, at the age of 48, in Fort Lauderdale, FL, after heart failure.
Santos's legacy is lovingly treasured by his devoted wife of 19 years, Edith Carreras; his adoring children, Zoah, Crystal, Andre, and Steven; his treasured grandchildren, Ezra, Isabella, and Violet; and his sister, Providencia. His spirit is joined in eternity with his late father, Agustin Carreras, and his mother, Ignacia Bonilla, both of Puerto Rico.
Born on September 3, 1975, in Manhattan, NY, Santos was a beacon of resilience and joy from the start. He was a proud graduate of Colegio San Pedro Martir in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, and furthered his education at Fayetteville State University. His patriotism and sense of duty were evident through his commendable 24 years of service in the U.S. Army, commencing in 1994 as a dedicated Motor Transport Operator in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.
Santos represented the true essence of a family man, with a heart brimming with love for his wife and children. He was Edith's stronghold, her partner in life's dance since their union in Miami, FL, in 2004. Together they blended their family beautifully, welcoming each child with open arms and an open heart.
A man of many passions, Santos had a special place in his heart for the art of comics, with Batman holding the title of his ultimate superhero—a reflection of his own heroic nature. His vibrant personality radiated through his love of cooking, which he often did for his family, infusing each dish with the same love and care he bestowed upon them in every aspect of life.
Santos's presence was a gift to all who knew him; his laughter and love of salsa was a melody that set the rhythm of joy in any gathering. His life was a tapestry of service, not only to his country but to his family and friends, whom he supported with an unwavering presence. A guiding light, Santos's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the valor of a life well-lived.
The Carreras family invites those who were touched by Santos's life to pay tribute to a man who was not only their hero but an everyday hero to many. His memory will be eternally engraved in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him.
So, here’s to Santos—a man who was so much more than the sum of his parts, our beloved protector. Our very own Batman, always and forever. Fly high, Santos. You’ve earned your wings.
