Shane Michael Salimbene, our very young Warrior, was called by Jesus to join Him in Heaven, on March 1st, after only seven and a half short years here with us on earth. He leaves behind his extraordinary parents, Tony and Nicole Salimbene, who cared for him with immeasurable grace and an overflowing love.
His very proud grandparents, Grandpa Michael and Grandma Ellen, and Dida Don and Nanny Dolores, will miss him endlessly, along with his Aunt Kelly, Uncle Jason, cousins Danny and Annalise, Uncle Michael and Aunt Glenna, who all wish desperately he could have stayed with us longer. Shane will be missed by all of the hearts he has ever met, especially the hearts who loved him so.
BUT, we know that up in Heaven, PraDida Ante has already taken Shane fishing, Shane and Great Grandpa Billy are talking about the Fighting Irish, and Great Grandma Jane has thin mints and tootsie rolls waiting for him in a jar. We are sure that Great Grandpa AJ took him to the horses, and Great Grandma Marie is teaching him to make gravy, and of course, Uncle Michael, Kevin and Chris are already helping him practice his swing.
Shane defied the odds from the very start, bursting into the world early and eager to make his mark. His smiling blue eyes, signature giggle, and exuberant personality charmed his family from day one, and made an impression on all he came in contact with. He was often heard before he was seen, typically zipping to the pool with a ball in hand, and filling the homes of all who knew him with joyful laughter and endless games of catch.
Much like his mother, he had a great memory and sense of direction, calling out each expected speedbump in their neighborhood. At home, Shane took every opportunity to howl with (and sometimes at) his dad, who indulged him with silly faces on command. Together, the family never missed a Florida Panthers game, nor the chance to engage in friendly competition with their rivals to the north, the Tampa Bay Lightning (and most importantly, Lightning superfans and Shane’s doting relatives, Nada and Gene).
Our Warrior fought so many battles in his short life, conquering each with a grit and determination that astounded both his family and the hardworking health professionals who looked after him. Even in the most dire of times, he could be found smiling and singing along to his favorite Moana and Lion King songs, right up until the day Jesus called our joyful Warrior home.
We have much to learn from Shane. He faced countless challenges and found a way to smile through each of them. That smile, and the courage it represented, continues to inspire and teach all who loved him how to be Shane Strong.
