Thomas James Morgenstern, 71, passed away on January 16, 2026, after a brave and hard-fought journey marked by tremendous strength and perseverance. He was born on February 8, 1954, second child of eight to parents Thomas and Caroline, and lived a life defined by dedication, passion, and deep love for his family.
Tom was the beloved husband of Kathleen Morgenstern and a devoted father to his two daughters, Kelly Kearns, with her husband Keith and Heather Howell, with her husband Christopher. A proud “girl dad,” he cherished his role as a father and later as a grandfather to his eight grandchildren: Nathan, Anthony, Mason, Savannah, Emma, Ben, Dylan, and Jameson, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
He is also survived by his four sisters and three brothers.
Professionally, Tom spent his career as an engineer and subcontractor supporting the U.S. Navy and Military, working aboard ships to install and repair communication systems. His work required precision, reliability, and problem-solving—qualities that also defined him as a person. He took great pride in knowing his skills contributed to the safety and communication of those who served.
Beyond his career, Tom’s lifelong passion was sports car racing. For decades, he was not only an enthusiastic fan, but an active and dedicated member of multiple racing teams, including Champion Porsche, Peter Uria Racing, and Finn Racing. Racing was more than a hobby—it was a community, a craft, and a source of joy that shaped many of his most meaningful experiences.
Tom also loved sports, especially cheering for the Miami Dolphins and the Florida Panthers, rarely missing a game and always ready with commentary.
Above all else, Tom will be remembered as a wonderful father, a loving husband, and a man who faced life’s greatest challenges with courage and determination. His strength, loyalty, and unwavering love will live on through his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at WESTWOOD COMMUNITY FIVE, located at 8300 NW 93rd Ave., Tamarac, FL 33321. The event is scheduled for February 8, 2026, starting at 12:00 pm. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite sports or racing gear and share their favorite memories of Tom.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
