

Born in Vrondero–Florina, Macedonia, Greece, Alex began a remarkable journey when he immigrated to Chicago, Illinois, in July 1946. On October 8, 1949, he married the love of his life, Florence Nickolas. Together, they built a beautiful life, sharing 62 devoted years of marriage until Florence’s passing in 2012.
Alex was a proud and hardworking man, retiring from Commonwealth Edison in Chicago after 32 years of loyal service. He was known for his quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and deep love for his family.
He is survived by his children, Bill (the late Kathy), Nick (Sue), George (Judy), Alex (Sherry), and Angie; sister-in-law, Marlene Kotchou; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence; his parents, Vasil and Angelina Kotchou; and his brothers, Steve and Pete.
Alex’s legacy lives on through the love he gave and the lives he touched. He will be remembered always for his humility, wisdom, and the deep pride he took in his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
