

Red was born July 12, 1924, in Coal City, Indiana, his parents preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are, his wife, Bonnie (Crouch) Haviland; his son, Kenny Haviland, brothers, Harold, Merle , and Robert Haviland; and step-brother, Carl Hardesty.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jeannie (Paul) Kovach of Schererville, Jack (late Jan) Haviland of St. John, Mike (Late Rhonda) Haviland of Lowell; daughter-in-law, Karen Benoit-Smith; grandchildren, Larry Rogalski of Lakewood, Colorado, Chris Haviland of East Chicago, Lisa (George) Suroviak of St. John, Bonnie (Dave) Schoenbeck of Kentland,and Kellie (Clint) Gorball of Lowell; great-grandchildren, Gillian, Gordon, Greer , and Garrett Suroviak, Noah and Hannah Schoenbeck, and Kendall Gorball; sister-in-law, Mina Haviland; life long friends, Al Morgan and Mark Mysliwiec; and many nieces and nephews.
Red retired from Operating Engineers #150, working at Wehling Well Works and American Steel Foundries. He was a Member of the Greater Calumet Region Hall of Fame Bowling Association. He was also a loyal Cubs fan. Red was a master fabricator, making anything and everything for his family and friends from steel. He enjoyed spending time with his large family and extended family.
Visitation will be Monday, January 2, 2017 from 3-7 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave. Schererville, Indiana 46375). Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 11:00 am with Pastor John Harris officiating.
