Darla L. Sloan

Darla Lynn Sloan, known affectionately as Sweet D or Dar, passed away on April 5, 2024, in Homewood, IL, at the age of 47. She was born on July 6, 1976, in Hammond, IN, and taken too soon due to a rare, untreatable cancer. Darla was a 1996 Graduate of T.F. South, a member of the Salvation Army Church, and a dedicated employee of Strack and Van Til in Munster for 22 years. She was an adoring sister, best fishing buddy ever, super babysitter and animal lover. Darla was an APA Honorary MVP of “That one Team,” decorated bowler, Disney fanatic, and Minnie Mouse's #1 fan. Darla was known for being a foodie, an avid disc golfer, and Mario Party guru. Her interests also included Diamond Art, baking, solving word searches, travel, and spending time with her friends. Darla is survived by her brother, Buddy (Michelle) Sloan; sister, Lauren Sloan; brother, Jack Sloan; aunts and uncles, Linda (Dean Curtis) Presco, Jim Sloan, Sharon Galvan, and Kevin (Dawn) Sloan; as well as nephews, nieces, and many beloved cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jean Sloan (nee, Greatrix); and father, Lester Sloan, Sr. A Visitation will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307, on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. Memorial Services to honor Darla's life will also be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 10:00 am. She loved to be the center of attention and made friends wherever she went. At home, they would say, "this is Darla’s world and we’re just living it."
