

Don is the loving husband for 69 years to Atsuko “Jeanie” Wallace; beloved father to Roy (Maria) Wallace, Donna Morgan, and Cindy (Mike) Hocott; proud grandfather to Scott (Jayme) Morgan, Christopher (Stephanie Samagaia) Morgan, and Brittany Morgan; great-grandfather to Ronin; devoted son to the late Anthony and Louise Wallace; cherished brother to the late Raymond Wallace and the late Walter Wallace; and uncle to many.
Don honorably served in the United States Navy from 1951-1955 as a radio man and aviation electronic technician 3rd class Petty Officer in Guam, Japan and Philippines, and ending in San Diego. He was born into the Navy and was raised in Pearl City, Hawaii. As a nine year old, he witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. His parents then relocated to Gary, IN, where he graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1950. After serving his country, he had a job waiting for him at Inland Steel, and he went back to Japan to marry the love of his life, Atsuko “Jeanie.” Don retired from Inland Steel after 36 years of faithful service as a metallurgist.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 11:00 AM until the time of his Memorial Service at 1:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may given toward the American Heart Association.
