

Dorothy Ada Henry, age 90, passed away March 23, 2013 at St. Margaret's/Kindred Hospital in Hammond. She is survived by her son, Ronald L. Henry of Concord, CA; grandson, Charles C. Henry of Indianapolis, IN; and her dear friend and caregiver, Yvonne Jackson of Hammond, IN. Preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Donald I. Henry; her son, Robert E. Henry, parents: Robert and Hazel Fleming; and brother, Robert E. Fleming, Jr. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Chapel lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Ave., Schererville, IN) with Pastor Alex Stone officiating. Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. A memorial visitation will be Thursday, March 28, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Dorothy was born in Butler, PA and was a graduate of Oakmont High School in Oakmont, PA. She worked at JC Penney in New Kensington, PA. During and after World War II, Dorothy worked as a secretary at the ALCOA Aluminum Company in New Kensington, PA (1942-1952). She loved her job there and was always proud of her work and the relationships that grew over the years. She was commended for her work ethic and quality, often doing the work of three people. In 1952, Dorothy married and moved from Oakmont, PA to Hammond, IN. She was active in the Gavit High School PTA (1966-1975), was secretary of the Abbie Hanson Chapter of Eastern Star, a member of Woodmar Methodist Church for 60 years, and an active member of the UMW at Woodmar Methodist Church. Prior to her five hip surgeries, Dorothy loved to square dance. She thrived on talking and visiting with friends. She always thought of the people she cared about, creating small homemade gifts to demonstrate it. Organization was something Dorothy always enjoyed doing, with her exceptional mind/memory supporting all projects. Dorothy always enjoyed writing and staying in contact with people through cards and letters. She cared about people and "Her family was her life." In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UMW at Woodmar Methodist Church.
