

Born September 9, 1919 in Hammond, IN, he was the son of the late Joseph and Agnes (nee Girman) Mayden. He and his love, Evelyn Zajack, were wed November 29, 1941. Ed retired from the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad in 1980 after 41 years as a locomotive engineer. Ed was active on the board of directors for the athletic association of the railroad, credit union and Jellystone Parks.
Surviving to mourn his passing is his beloved wife of 68 years Evelyn; 3 devoted children: Daniel J. (Linda) Mayden of Portage, IN and Parrish, FL, Lawrence (Kathy) Mayden of Highland, IN and Linda (Donald) Olenik of Crown Point, IN; 10 cherished grandchildren: Dr. David (Betsey) Mayden, Sheryl (Dan) Siecker, Michael (Heather) Mayden, Shelly (Jim Holland) Mayden, Donald (Lana) Olenik Jr., Brian (Julie) Olenik, Jeff (Michelle) Olenik, Mark (Sherry) Olenik, Cathy (Todd) Weaver and Michelle (Frank) Valentino; doting great grandfather of 20 who Ed enjoyed every summer fishing and boating at his home in Jellystone Park in Pierceton, IN. He is also survived by 6 loving siblings: Dr. Robert (Carole) Mayden, John (Sara) Mayden, Louie (Kathy) Mayden, Richard Mayden, Mary Ann (Niel) Cavanaugh and Iliane (Ray) Van Buskirk; as well as many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Waiting to greet him in Heaven are his parents; sisters Florence and Agnes, and brother Elmer.
The family invites relatives and friends to visit Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 S. Cline Ave., (1/2 mile S. of US 30), Schererville, IN on Thursday, February 18th from 3-7 pm. A service to celebrate his life will take place in the funeral home on Friday, February 19th at 10:30 am with Father Mens presiding. At rest, Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville.
