

George H. Monix, age 78, of Crown Point, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2016 at his residence with his loving family at his side. George was born July 28, 1937 to the late Alfred and Margaret (Greiner) Monix. He married Nancy (Frye) Monix, who survives. Also surviving are his children: Cheryl (Bob) Dorris, Matt Monix, Alan (Alyssa) Monix, and Gary (Andrea) Monix. A son Tim Monix preceded him in death. Grandchildren include: Bobby (Shawna) and Amanda Dorris, Jessica, Melissa, Hayden, Grant, Julia Nan, and Parker Monix; great grandchildren, Braxton and Logan Dorris, and Riley Monix. And his faithful companion, Murphy. Siblings are, the late Alfred (Adeline), Bill (Mary), the late Pete (Joanne), Fred (Helen), Herman (the late Sally) Monix. George was born fifth of six boys. After his father passed away, when George was nine, he and his brothers helped their mother maintain the family farm. After graduating high school he enlisted and honorably served in the United States Army, being stationed in Germany. George was a mechanic, and retired from Pro Auto Service in Crown Point. He was a faithful member of Crown Point Methodist Church and St. John VFW. He was also a member and past presidents of Southlake County Agricultural Historical Society, Eagles, and "Fricke's" Thursday Night Bowling League. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Visitation will be Sunday, January 17, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave., Schererville, IN 46375). Funeral services will be Monday, January 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn. Burial will be at a later date at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
