

Born and raised in Merrillville, John graduated from Merrillville High School before becoming a lifelong resident of Crown Point, IN. He was a man known for his quiet strength, steady kindness, and deep devotion to those he loved.
A true sports enthusiast, John loved watching the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, as well as Indiana, Purdue, and Notre Dame football and basketball, an enjoyment that brought him many happy moments over the years.
John was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 12 years, Janet Hevezi; his loving parents, James and Margaret Hevezi; his sister, Margaret Hevezi; and his nephews, Mark and Michael Hevezi.
He leaves behind a large and loving family who will forever hold his memory close; his brothers, James Hevezi, Joseph (Sharon) Hevezi, Louis (Patricia) Hevezi, Alex (Tina) Hevezi, and Chuck Hevezi; his sisters, Mary Hieke, Rose (Thomas) Long, Elizabeth Deloera and Kathy (Dave) Patz; nephew, Andrew Weede; along with many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends whose lives were brightened by his presence.
John proudly served his country in the United States Navy, a chapter of his life he carried with honor. He went on to dedicate 45 years to Inland Steel, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. Outside of work, John found joy in the simple things, most especially, fishing and photography pursuits that reflected his appreciation for quiet moments and the beauty of the world around him.
John will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life on December 11, 2025, with visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home in the Skylight Room, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
