Katherine L. Brister

Katherine L. Brister, age 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 25, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald E. Brister; daughters, Kathy McKee and Connie (Timothy) DeVries; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Margie Belcher, Dean Rhoades and Lottie (Dale) Brown; numerous cousins; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Preceded in death by her son, Michael Brister; parents, Melvin and Arena Walker; sister, Becky Allen; brothers, Kenneth, Bruce, Larry and Gilbert Walker; dearest friend, Irma Wilson and beloved dog, Ginger. Katherine was born on February 14, 1938, in Greenville, Kentucky. On November 24, 1954, she married the love of her life, Donald Brister and together they raised 3 children. Katherine was a homemaker devoted to caring for her husband and children. She was a talented crafter, especially enjoying crocheting, knitting, sewing and quilting. Katherine was an extraordinary cook who received endless requests for her biscuits and gravy. She also enjoyed gardening and had an amazing green thumb that could make any plant flourish. Katherine cherished most of all, visiting with family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Avenue Crown Point, IN) with Pastor James Williams officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Sunday, December 3, 2017, from 2:00-6:00 PM at the funeral home.
