Katherine was born on July 27, 1950 to Paul and Luella (Kosanke) Kyle in Indiana. She attended Morton High School, Hammond, IN. She worked primarily as a waitress, until she started her training for trucking in 1988. During her training, she met Donald Farnum and the two have been a team ever since. They began over the road, trucking together, and were united in marriage on September 17, 2005.
With trucking taking a toll on Katherine's back, she later changed careers and became a paraprofessional for Hammond, IN schools. In 2011, Katherine and Donald moved to Brooklyn, IA to help care for Donald’s family.
Family was everything to Katherine. She cherished time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enjoying their many activities, including watching her oldest son race local car races as she had a love for watching NASCAR. Katherine also enjoyed going camping with her husband Don, and she loved watching football - especially the Green Bay Packers.
Katherine helped run a Ducks Unlimited chapter with Donald in IN, hosting many banquets and events. She spent hours sewing, knitting, and crocheting, making several blankets for her family.
Katherine always put others before herself, making sure each person was cared for and supported. Her compassion, loyalty, and yes—even her stubbornness—were the traits that made her unforgettable. She was the glue that held her family together. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, teacher and dog mom.
Katherine is survived by her husband, Donald of Brooklyn; children, Kenneth E. Myer of IN, Katherine Balczo of IN, and Steven (Jennifer) Myer of FL; grandchildren, Stephanie (Kevin) Ellis, Amber (Garrett) Baum-Hall, Samantha Baum, and Kenneth J. Myer; great-grandchildren, Makenzee, Jayden, Athena, Clementine, Larkin, Remi, and Bennett; siblings, Leland, Stanley, Benjamen, and Hope; and her beloved dog, June Bug.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Linda.
