Mary Kathryn Moberly Jay

Mary Jay (nee Moberly) age 61 of Schererville, formerly of Hammond, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015. She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband Rich; daughters: Erin (Tom) Burns and Susan (Matt) Thompson; grandchildren: Jenna and Rex; brother, Jay (Jenny) Moberly; sister, Julia (Brent) Kuhn and children; as well as many brothers and sisters in law, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Jane Moberly. For 37 years, Mary was a Family and Consumer Science teacher for the School City of Hammond. While she started at Hammond Tech and ended at Gavit High School, most of her career was spent teaching at Hammond High School. There she served as a union representative, department chair- person, class sponsor; coached cheerleading, and was named "Outstanding Teacher of the Year" in 1995. Mary was a member of South Side Christian Church in Munster for many years, where she served as a deacon and played the organ. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 9, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 8178 Cline Ave. Schererville, IN 46375. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 10, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the same facility.
