Michael G Toth, formerly of Griffith, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 in Lakeland, Florida at the age of 88. He was born in Whiting, Indiana on October 16, 1934 to Gazle and Elizabeth Toth.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his beloved wife Helen to whom he was married for almost 52 years, and brother James. He is survived by his children Michael (Beth) Toth of Schererville, Indiana, David (Lisa) Toth of Acworth, Georgia, Cathleen (Gary) Leedy of Lakeland, Florida and Ronald Toth of Burr Oak, Michigan, brother Louis (Didee) Toth of Whiting and sisters Mary Moredich of Hammond and Betty (Stan) Slazyk of Munster. He also leaves behind numerous loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Employed as a Tool & Die Maker at the Ford Motor Company Chicago Heights plant, he spent many midnight shifts stamping truck parts until his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Korea.
Mike was the embodiment of the family man. During annual work shutdowns he would take the family on cross-country vacations, often camping and fishing along the way. These excursions gave us the opportunity to travel the nation together from coast-to-coast and left indelible memories. Before retiring to Centre, Alabama, he and Helen spent many wonderful summers with their children at their lake cottage on Long Lake in Burr Oak, Michigan, swimming and boating. They continued this during their retirement, where family events would be spent on Weiss Lake, fishing for the perfect Crappie.
Dad was a coach to his sons on their Little League baseball teams, a timer during swim meets, a Boy Scout troop leader and in attendance at every recital, game and important event in his children’s lives. You cannot ask for more than that.
During his final months in hospice he was cared for by his daughter Cathy at her home in Florida. We all thank her for this act of compassion.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 14th at 10:30am at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home with internment immediately afterward in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Please make a donation to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
