

Pauline (Palmateer) Beyer, age 92, of Hammond, Indiana, was born into eternal life on September 13, 2014, at her residence, with her loving family at her side. Pauline was born August 20, 1922 in Kankakee, IL to the late Elmer Sr. and Laurette (Podach) Palmateer. In 1948 she married her husband Harold Beyer of 61 years, who passed away in 2009. Surviving are her children Diana Beyer and Barry Beyer; grandson Brian Krupinski; brother, Elmer Jr. (Lorna) Palmateer; many brother and sister in laws and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Beyer was a 1940 graduate of Kankakee High School. Upon graduating from Nursing School at St. Margaret Hospital in 1944, she enlisted in the Navy, serving as a Navy Leuitenant in the Navy Nurse's Corp. She was stationed in Okinawa and Guam between 1944 and 1946. When she returned to the United States, she was stationed in Dwight, IL at the Veteran's Hospital where she met and fell in love with the love of her life, Horald. When the couple came back to Indiana, she went back to St. Margaret's Hospital serving in the ER and pediatrics units. She retired from her nursing career at the LTV Steel Hospital after many years of faithful service. Pauline was also a loving and devoted mother, homemaker and caregiver to many, especially to the dozens of other children in the neighborhood. She was a pillar to her North Hammond neighborhood, and took great pride in her community. She also served as past president for the Lincoln Elementary PTA and was Den Mother. She was also a talented cook, event planner and classical pianist and organist, who enjoyed making people comfortable and happy. Visitation will be Friday, September 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. .at .Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave. Schererville, Indiana 46375), and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Casmir Catholic Church (4340 Johnson Ave, Hammond, Indiana 46327) with Fr. William O'Toole officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed towards Memorial Masses in her name at St. Casmir Catholic Church or to the Church.
