

Robert “Bob” James Britton, Jr., age 90, of DeMotte, IN, formerly of Schererville, IN, passed away due to congestive heart failure on Saturday, June 17, 2023, in the hospital surrounded by family members.
Bob was born to Robert J., Sr. and Theresa H. (Schweitzer) Britton on September 17, 1932, in Schererville, IN. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Fleming, on July 25, 1952, in Alcorn, Mississippi.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Marion Haney and Vivian Roe; brothers, Frank and Edmund; sister-in-law, Glenda Britton; brothers-in-law, Philip Haney and Robert Volk; daughter, Theresa; son, Edward; and son-in-law, Timothy Tangerman.
He is survived by Carolyn, his loving wife of 70 years. He is also survived by sisters Evelyn Volk and Barbara Britton; sister-in-law, Joyce Britton and brother-in-law, Vernon Roe; children, Diana Britton of DeMotte; Kathleen (Jack) Whitted of Texas; Trish (late Edward) Britton of Knox; Linda (Mark) Orban of Highland; Gary (late Theresa) Love of Florida; Tim Britton of Florida; Donna Saddler of Florida; Mary Tangerman of Schneider; Glen (Kerri) Britton of Lowell; and son-in-law, Carl Saddler of Florida; grandchildren, Jan Orban; Amy (Robert) Greene née Britton; Tamara (James) Bozoglou née Whitted; Jack (Jill) Whitted; Krystal (Chuck) Kouder née Britton; Keith (Stephanie) Orban; Scott (Alea) Britton; Erika (Jason) Novina née Britton; Neil (Delana) Orban; Myles (Brittney) Saddler; Kyle (Chelsea) Whitted; Christopher (Melissa) Orban; Melody (Jesse Groulx) Britton; Shane (Lena Johnson) Saddler; Joshua Love; Brittaney (Troy) Reutebuch née Tangerman; Johnathon Britton; Rachel (Gary) Noonan née Love; Jamie (Luis Lopez) Saddler; Tyler Britton; Matthew (Taryn) Tangerman; Cameron Britton; Caden Britton; and Tanner Flanagan; 27 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was raised in Schererville, IN and graduated from Dyer Central High School in 1950. He belonged to the Teamsters Union and had many employment adventures throughout his lifetime, including owning and running Tilden TV Repair Shop. He also owned and drove asphalt trucks for Walsh and Kelly. Bob was part-owner of Schererville Sand and Stone. After selling the property to developers, the main street through the subdivision was named “Britton Drive” in his honor. Bob had a love for building houses, with his first one being built at age 19. He built several more houses in the area, including one in Dyer, and two in Cedar Lake. Bob enjoyed working with electronics, fixing motors, going fishing, playing the harmonica and collecting coins. With his coin collection, Bob was able to build his family’s first home and purchase his dump trucks. He was generous with his time and would lend a hand to anyone who needed it. Bob had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He was a hardworking man who was dedicated to his family and confident in his Faith. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and everyone who knew him, knew they were welcome anytime. Bob enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida, so he and his wife could escape the harsh Indiana weather and visit some of their children and their families. Bob will be dearly missed and remain in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
A Public Visitation for Bob will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. Additional time to visit with the family will be on Monday, June 26, 2023, from 11:00 AM until the beginning of the Funeral at 12:30 PM. Dr. Dennis Olsen, and d. min. and Pastor Char Olsen will be officiating. Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in the Garden of Lake.
