The life of the party, he loved being around people (a real people person). He was always there to give a helping hand ~ a man of many talents and tales. He had a strong will for life and survived the Korean War as a Sargent in active combat. During that time, he endured many sad and horrific war events, but he persevered and married his high school sweetheart, our dear mother Garnet. She was his rock and wings. He was the wild and she was his calm.
He was dedicated to his family and marriage of 68 years. (That is a life accomplishment and commitment to be proud of.) He was fortunate to have a wonderful mother and father. Unfortunately he lost his father in his early teens, which was a major loss for him. Although he had already gained many positive attributes and lessons from his dad. His mom (Helen) loved and spoiled her boy and this created his love for life and a mischievous side in early childhood. Oh, what fun and stories he would tell. Our mother always said the only reason she married him was because she loved his mom so much. This is a standing joke today.
He loved ALL sports and excelled in many as a young man, like basketball and swimming. In adulthood, Golf was his baby. Rain or shine he played and worked at the golf course in Florida until he was 88 years old, then came Covid and changed the course for everyone.
His second love was fishing trips with the boys, especially with his brother-in-law “BIL” Frank Britton. They were closer than blood brothers and shared a special bond. May they both rest in peace and enjoy some golfing and fishing in a beautiful and serene Heaven.
Erbbie loved the Chicago Cubs; and he was a true diehard fan win or lose. 2016 was an epic event for him when they won the World Series - Go Cubs!!!
His positive, outgoing personality was instrumental in providing him with jobs and people he liked. He wore many different hats. He was a soldier, printer and dispatcher for Thatcher Engineering, and was a dedicated worker and committed to coworkers. Sadly, he endured many medical issues in his life, but that never slowed him down. His zest for life never stopped even towards the end. Most recently, prior to his passing he went from hospital care, to home hospice care, to hurricane Ian, but we call it Hurricane Erbbie now. A real trifecta, he passed two days prior to that horrific hurricane and kept us on our toes during that journey.
Grateful and blessed that we were able to grant his last wishes to return to Florida, and pass in his home, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was not alone in the end, and that was a comfort to all of us.
Erbbie is lovingly remembered by his wife Garnet, 5 children Larry Joe, Gary, Frederick, Susan and Patricia and their spouses Renee’ Jo, Carolyn, Sandy, Robert and Charles; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, special nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.
Erbbie lived, loved and always will be remembered in our hearts and memories as having a life well lived. He is in God's care now. Rest in peace, you have earned it!! We will celebrate and honor you today and every day.
