Bob’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband and a proud, loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jane Spangler; children, Stephanie (Ken) Baker, Alex, Nicholas, Matthew, and Sarah; grandchildren, Tyler and Benjamin Baker; brother, Donald (Diane) Spangler; sister, Kristine Harrison; brothers-in-law, Joseph (Carolyn) Panozzo, Thomas (Terry) Panozzo, and James (Renee) Panozzo; sister-in-law, Linda (Andrew) Stebel; mother-in-law, Joyce Panozzo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Kent and Theresa Spangler.
Born in Washington, D.C., Bob earned a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Following his graduation, he had a long and successful career in the steel industry, contributing his expertise to Inland Steel, Acme Steel, and ArcelorMittal. After 46 years of dedicated service, Bob retired in January, 2018, marking the end of a remarkable professional journey.
Bob was passionate about golf and volleyball, specifically women’s volleyball. He played indoor and beach volleyball for many years. He loved going to and watching his children at all their sporting events through the years. Gardening was also a favorite hobby.
He was a good man, liked and loved by all who knew him. He will surely be missed by his many friends and family.
