

Alfred Henry “Al” Amaral Jr., age 68, passed away from heart failure, June 20, 2014 at Baylor Medical Center, Carrollton, Texas. Al was born in Newport, Rhode Island on December 5, 1945. After graduating Rogers High School in Newport in 1966 and Rhode Island Electronics School in 1966 in Providence, Al served in the United States Army from 1966-1968 at the US Army Defense Artillery Center at Fort Bliss, Texas where he married his wife Bess on August 4, 1968. Al began his long career in the public and private sectors working on radar systems in Newport for the US. Civil Service. After earning his Bachelor of Business Administration from U.T. El Paso in 1973, Al worked for the Xerox Corporation as branch manager, and the Burroughs Corporation as California District Manager. An innovator, Al began the first data processing service bureau in New Mexico in 1982, Financial Data Corporation, with the main office in Roswell, NM. He also pioneered the first online website for purchasing batteries, PC Batts, Inc. in 1997. After moving to Carrollton, Texas, Al became a major accounts representative for Southwestern Battery Supply. Before retiring in 2011, he worked several years for the Transportation Security Administration at DFW Airport in their operations control center. Al spent his remaining years enjoying family and going on excursions with his wife with their RV group, the Texas North Star Sams.
Al is survived by his wife, Bess, son Christopher Amaral and daughter-in-law Amy, granddaughters Jordan and Maddie; Amy’s parents Jeff and Debbie Hilliard; sisters Pat Donnell and husband Bill, Pauline Buckley and husband Bill, Linda Sullivan and husband Paul, and his sister Susan Amaral; Brother-in-law Bernie Rosenblum and wife Kay; Brother-in-law Douglas Greene and wife Jeanne; and friends Jack Lyons, Tom Leary, Guy Harrington, and Buddy Chase, Newport, RI; Troy and Linda Hays, Roswell, NM; Cody and Lindsey Towery, Little Elm; Bill and Linda Cassidy, Denton. Al was preceded in death by his parents Alfred Amaral, Sr. and Irene Lavoie.
Al will always be remembered for his love and devotion to his family. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 24 from 6 -8 pm at the Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 Geo Bush Turnpike, Dallas. The graveside service at the DFW National Cemetery, Dallas, on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 12:45 in lane C.
