Bobby Wayne Dodson was born in Kilgore, Texas, to Robert L. and Nellie J. Dodson on August 18, 1938, and passed away on April 28, 2024, in Plano, Texas. Wayne graduated from Kilgore High School, attended the University of Texas in Austin, and graduated from Stephen F. Austin State College. He also served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1968. He then pursued a long and successful career in insurance claims adjusting and risk management.
Wayne married Peggy L. Horvath on October 11, 1963, and together they raised their only child, daughter Angie. He enjoyed playing & watching various sports over the years, most notably bowling 24 perfect 300 games and making 2 holes-in-one on the golf course. Wayne also loved spending time at their lake house with family & friends, which included fishing and other boating activities. During retirement, he enjoyed extensive travel opportunities & tinkering with handyman projects. Wayne was an active member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, where he served as a Stephen Minister for 20 years.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Robert L. and Nellie J. Dodson; and brother, R.J. Dodson. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy Dodson; his daughter, Angie Dodson Oehlert and Husband, Aaron; two grandsons, Garrett and Travis Oehlert; as well as many extended family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Plano, Texas on Monday, May 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Resurrection Lutheran Church, or a charity of your choice.
