Eugene Vasiliu

Eugene "Genu" Vasiliu passed away on December 31, 2013 at the age of 80 in Plano, TX. He is survived by his loving companion Floriana "Lori" Popteanu, sister Octavia "Vica" Vasiliu, daughter Donna Vasiliu and her mother Michelle Vasiliu. He is lovingly remembered by many friends in the Dallas Romanian community.

 Eugene was born in Cluj, Romania on April 19, 1933 to Octav and Eugenia Vasiliu. His love and talent for music was recognized at a very young age, resulting in his attendance of the Royal Music Conservatory and pursuing a career as a Sound Engineer. His reputation in the music industry was widely known throughout Romania, allowing him to work and tour with some of the greatest musicians of his time.

 In 1980, in search of a better life for he and his family, Eugene fled to the United States where he was granted a political asylum in Los Angeles, CA and his family followed in 1982. He continued his career (in L.A. and later in Dallas, TX) as a sound engineer by working with local bands and artists, some of whom went on to become worldwide sensations in the 80's and 90's.He maintained his passion for music later in life by donating his time to local churches in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area with his sound system. He was an active member of the Romanian Baptist Church of Euless, TX and will be deeply missed by his church family.



Memorial services will be held on Sunday Jan 5, 2013, 10:30m at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home.
