Joan Ann Walsh, age 81, of Plano, Texas passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018. Joan was born Monday, July 5, 1937 in Maspeth, New York, the youngest daughter of Marie (Fitz) McMahon and John McMahon.
Joan grew up in Ridgewood, Long Island, New York. She was always very happy person. Growing up and throughout her life, she loved to sing. She was a very active child, very bouncy as a baby and always running around the house. Later, growing up, she was the proverbial good girl. Always did as she was supposed to. She graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1955. She grew up Roman Catholic and at the time of passing was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Plano, Texas.
Joan worked as a customer service representative for New York Telephone as a young woman from 1955-1960, then later Southwestern Bell which later became AT&T from 1979-2002. She retired from AT&T.
Joan married her soul mate and one and only true love, Robert John Walsh,“Bob," Saturday, November 21, 1959 in West Hempstead, New York. The couple had 56 amazing years of marriage before Bob's untimely passing. Their union brought them three beautiful children; son, Robert (Bobby), and daughters, Maureen and Karen. This brought them the addition of a wonderful daughter-in-law, Shelley and wonderful son-in-laws, John and Jonathan Which in turn blessed them with five amazing grandchildren, Christopher Aragon, Kaitlyn Brooks, Ryan Wallace, Kristen Wallace, Cassidy Aragon. When Joan's children came home from school as little kids, she would often tell them they had a special visitor; she didn’t know their name, but she could describe them. For Karen and Maureen, it would be a prince on a white horse. For Bobby, it was an English nanny that came down from the sky with an umbrella. She would sign all of the notes to them as “Mommy Joan Walsh”.
Joan had her favorites like, old classic movies and popular music from her generation.
Her favorite singer was Barbra Streisand. She could do an excellent imitation of Barbra Streisand singing. She loved the beach! When her children were young, she took them to Tobay Beach on Long Island at least twice a week! She loved St Patrick’s Day / St. Patrick’s Day parade, well any parade for that matter!.
Joan will always be remembered as a very classy, very proper woman, her liking to be glamorous and always being impeccably dressed with hair and make-up fixed. Joan was often heard saying, “Always have some class.” When you think of Joan you think of her love of singing. She especially liked to sing popular music from her generation, she was especially good at Irish songs. Many times she would get up at events and sing publicly.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband Robert John Walsh; son-in-law Jonathan Wallace; mother Marie McMahon and father John McMahon; sister Maryann Lynam; brother-in-law Michael Lynam; brother-in-law John Turczyn; and brother-in-law Jackie Walsh.
