JoAnn Smalling

JoAnn Dickey Smalling, 84, of Carrollton, Texas died on June 3, 2025. She was born September 21, 1940, in Houston, Harris County, Texas to H. Branch Dickey and Ozell Wright Dickey. She married her husband Joe Willis Smalling in 1960 and celebrated 52 years of marriage before his death in 2012.

JoAnn and her husband Joe were founding members of the Eagle River Church of Christ in Eagle River, Alaska. She was a member of Shawnee Trail Church of Christ in Frisco, Texas. When her kids were young, she was an active Little League and PTA Mom. She loved politics and served as State Vice President for the Wyoming Federation of Republican Women and managed Republican Headquarters in Edwardsville, Illinois during the 1992 election season.

She is survived by her four children: Dickey Smalling and wife Shirley, of Atlanta, Georgia; Ken Smalling and his wife Josie of Lafayette, Louisiana; Rodney Smalling of Little Elm, Texas; Sharla Smalling of Lubbock, Texas; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Laverne Dickey Glover.

Visitation will be Friday, June 6 at 9 a.m., followed by funeral services at 10 a.m., at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 President George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, Texas, 75252. The internment will be at 4:30 p.m. is Blair, OK.
