After a long fight to recover from West Nile encephalitis, she passed peacefully in her sleep. She was seventy-one. Karen, daughter of Rachel and Emory Davenport, was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. She attended the University of Texas until she fell in love with and married Harvey Luke Fishero. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Richmond, Virginia where she completed her bachelor’s degree in finance at the University of Richmond. Karen and Harvey celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 22, 2024.
Karen’s greatest joy was her family. She loved any vacation or family event that would bring everyone together. She also dearly loved her friends and was blessed with many. A relational person to her core, Karen invested herself in the lives of those around her. She maintained her closest friend from childhood and steadily accumulated more as she moved through her life, always finding room for a new connection. An avid studier of the Bible, Karen taught numerous Bible studies over the years. She loved to talk about the things of God. During the last 20 years, Karen found a passion for young moms and was, most recently, a mentor mom within the Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) organization. She loved to walk alongside these young mothers providing a nonjudgmental ear, or a bit of advice, as they shared the joys and sorrows of motherhood. She faithfully served these ladies until the day she entered the hospital. Karen is survived by her husband, Harvey; daughter Hilary (Al) Valente; daughter Julie (Ryan) Steele; son Brian (Abby) Fishero; brother Alan (Mary Ellen) Davenport along with eleven grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Karen’s life will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 11:00am at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship in Carrollton, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Emily’s Place (https://www.emilysplacetx.org/), a local Plano non-profit dedicated to “breaking the cycle of domestic violence for women and children through long-term transformational care that seeks to restore faith, hope and health”.
