Born February 5, 1935 to Byron and Mayte Allphin, Kathy grew up in the East Central Texas town of Bryan with her siblings Milton, John and Carolyn.
After high school, Kathy met Richard “Dick” VanTyne who attended Texas A&M in nearby College Station and they were married in 1954. With Dick having a terrible case of mumps at the time of their wedding, they exchanged vows in an Army hospital with Kathy in her bridal gown standing next to Dick laying in his dress uniform in bed.
Having spent time living in Washington State, New Jersey, and Brownsville, Texas, they settled down in the north Dallas suburb of Richardson and together raised their four children. Their long and happy marriage was nurtured through weekly date nights to Trader Vic’s and Steak & Ale and regular trips away together to New Orleans or San Antonio.
Following the death of Dick in 2003, Kathy married Maurice Martin in 2005 in the Whitney, TX community of White Bluff. They remained in Whitney until Maurice retired as pastor of the White Bluff Chapel in 2009 and relocated to McKinney where they lived a quiet life together until Maurice’s passing in 2022.
Kathy was a dedicated and faithful woman who loved Christ and loved her family. She possessed a keen sense of humor that showed itself often through her wry comments. Her life was filled with ever-present Chihuahua and Bichon Frisé dogs which brought her great joy. A talented pianist with a beautiful singing voice, she was happiest being the center of her home for her husbands and children.
She is survived by her four children Richard (Sharon) VanTyne Jr., David (Cecile) VanTyne, Sheri VanTyne and Michael (Laura) VanTyne; four grandchildren J.D. VanTyne, Stefani (Andrew) Trout, Eric (Lorna) VanTyne and Anya VanTyne; three great-grandchildren Mason, Landon and Liam; sister Carolyn (John) Royse; and sisters-in-law Glenda (Milton) Allphin and Helen (Tony) Allphin-Reed.
She was predeceased by husband Maurice, first husband Dick, parents Byron and Mayte Allphin, and brothers Milton and John.
