Lisa Ruth Malson was born on July 1, 1970, in Lackawanna, New York, to Susan Rifkin and Larry Malson. After the blizzard of 1977, the family moved to Plano, Texas. Lisa attended Christie Elementary, Carpenter Middle School, Clark High School, and Plano East Senior High School. She maintained and treasured her childhood friends from her years in Plano.
After high school, she started working for Target and soon became head cashier. During this time she transferred to Florida and lived with her brother, Keith, for a year. She quickly realized her heart was in Texas. When she moved back she decided to better herself through education, which was her mother’s passion and soon became hers. Lisa earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Texas and a Master of Science degree from Texas A&M-Commerce.
Lisa began her teaching career at Forman Elementary. During her time there, she received the award for Teacher of the Year. She continued her teaching with new experiences at McCall Elementary. While working as a Reading Specialist at Frankford Middle School, she enjoyed the challenges that students of this age brought. She then chose to pursue her Master of Education in Administration degree from Lamar University. Lisa honed her administrator skills while at Bowman Middle School during her internship. She returned to her Forman Elementary roots as an Assistant Principal. Her next Assistant Principal assignment took her to Meadows Elementary. All along the way for the past twelve years, Lisa advocated for her students. She always put the kids first.
Along her career path, Lisa created many friendships. Her family lived out of state (brother Keith, sister-in-law Vanessa, and nephew Sage in Florida; brother Greg in Tennessee; and Aunt Pam in California.) These friendships she had became her family of choice in Texas.
Lisa loved playing soccer, going to concerts, watching a wide variety of sports, traveling-especially to New York, motorcycles, the beach, skulls, and Curious George.
Plano ISD has created the Lisa Malson scholarship fund to honor her passion for teaching and dedication to the students and staff in the district. In memory of Lisa, you are welcome to make a contribution payable to the Plano ISD Education Foundation, 2700 West 15th Street, Plano, TX 75075. On the memo part of the check please note "Lisa Malson Memorial".
A memorial service to celebrate Lisa's life will be held on Saturday October 12, 2013 at the Ted Dickey West Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service in the funeral home's reception center.
