Marion L. Brockette, 71, of Plano, TX, passed away on April 23, 2025, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Dallas, TX, on September 12, 1953, to Marion L. Brockette, Sr. and Sarah Scott Johnston Brockette. He married Dianne Ammons on August 23, 1986.
Marion graduated from Bryan Adams High School in 1971 and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas in 1975. He went on to spend the majority of his career working as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the Dallas area. His work gave Marion many opportunities to travel the world, including to Singapore and Equatorial Guinea.
Outside of his work, Marion had a deep passion for studying historic battles involving the United States. His thirst for knowledge took him on an educational trip to France about World War II and concluded with a tour of Normandy Beach. He was also able to travel to Australia and Guadalcanal to immerse himself in the history of the Pacific Theater. Additionally, he enjoyed visiting significant Civil War battlefields, such as Gettysburg.
In the community, Marion was a patron of the arts and music. He proudly served on the board of the Plano Symphony Orchestra, was a member of Leadership Plano Class 35, and was a strong supporter of the arts throughout the DFW area. You would not be able to walk into Marion’s house without hearing Jimmy Buffett playing throughout the day. You could argue he was Jimmy Buffett’s number one fan, or his number one parrot head.
Most importantly, Marion was a great dad. He was active in all his daughters’ activities, attending their numerous soccer and softball games. He enjoyed spending time with them, going to their Indian Princess campouts and banquets when they were young. As they grew, he was always proud and supportive of their academic and professional endeavors.
Marion was predeceased by his parents, Marion L. Brockette Sr. and Sarah Scott Johnston Brockette. He is survived by his wife, Dianne Brockette; his three daughters, Emily and her fiance Andrew Stern, Rebecca, and Ashley Brockette; siblings Mary Brockette Dickson (Clifford), Alan (Beth) and Don (Kelly) Brockette; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A reception to celebrate Marion’s life will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 2-4 pm at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home in Plano, TX. In place of flowers, please consider a donation to the Plano Symphony Orchestra or an arts organization of your choice. https://planosymphony.org/donate/
