Mark Kenneth Ellsworth, age 65 of Dallas, Texas died on August 20, 2021. Mark was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 30, 1956, and immediately dubbed the favorite of the family. He attended Richardson High School and Douglas Freeman High School in Richmond, Virginia. Both schools claim him or disown him depending on the level of his shenanigans for the class of 1974. Mark attended North Carolina State University playing football under the legendary coach, Lou Holtz. He primarily studied, "wine, women and song" inspiring him to transfer to James Madison University earning a Bachelor of Business in 1978.
Mark lost his battle with cancer but fought it with the tenacity he showed on the grid iron. He lived less than an average lifespan but did not live an average life. He was feisty and funny to the end.
Mark celebrated life to the fullest and stretched boundaries wherever he could, because why not? If you were with Mark, then you were laughing and reveling in his story telling abilities. His greatest gift to his family and friends was his ability to make you feel special. He loved God, Family, Football, Elvis and Rocky. He was raised Catholic and remained on Team Catholic devotedly throughout his life.
His love of football started early watching the Cleveland Browns with his dad and was happy that team is keeping their name. Mark mostly loved college football favoring it over the professional leagues as he knew that was where the true spirit of the game lived. He was fanatical about Notre Dame and his alma mater teams.
He leaves a legacy of being a larger than life “Car Man” spending most of his career selling cars and managing people. Stories abound of his pranks, and we think the movie “Used Cars” best described the hilarity he brought to the workplace.
Mark is survived by his devoted sister, Marie Berry of Plano, TX, husband Bill Berry, nephew and godson , John Berry and his special friend and companion Marsha Kay Redden.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Donna Matlock. His mother, Mary Agnes Ellsworth and father, Marvin J. Ellsworth and his brother Michael Ellsworth of Plano, TX.
A Funeral Mass will be held 1:00 Pm Friday, September 10th, 2021, at Prince of Peace Catholic Community Church, 5100 W. Plano Pkwy, Plano, TX 75093. He will be instilled in the columbarium at the church with his family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
