

Born January 16, 1931, to Robert and Vera Mathes, in Quincy, IL, Joan, to all that knew her, graduated from Quincy College and moved to Boulder, CO., where she met and married William H Hall on September 12, 1953. Joan moved with Bill and her 2 daughters, Susan and Kathy, to Texas in the early 1960’s. Her son, Alan, was born in Dallas and this is where Joan spent the rest of her life.
Joan had a 27 year career in DISD, primarily as the school secretary at Stonewall Jackson Elementary. Joan went above and beyond as Stonewall’s secretary and was awarded The Apple Award of the Month on March 27, 1992 presented by DISD in recognition of her service to the students, parents, and teachers at Stonewall Jackson. Joan was the first secretary to learn American Sign Language in order to serve the needs of the hearing impaired students that attended Stonewall Jackson.
Joan spent her adult life serving her Lord and was a long time member of St. Matthew’s Cathedral. She was a member of Saint Monica’s Guild. Her second family for over 30 years was her friends at St. Matthew’s. She used her gift of organization to assist with running the 2nd Hand Clothes Store, Country Fair, the Food Pantry, working in the church office, and with other groups within St. Matthew’s.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Vera Mathes and brothers, Robert and Paul. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bill Hall; son, Alan Hall and his wife Margaret; daughter, Kathy Jessen and her husband, Ron; and daughter Susan Craig and husband Steve. Grandchildren: Brandon Daffron and wife Deanna; Veronica Osterman and husband Mark; Chris Jessen; Matt Hall and Victoria Hall. Great-grandsons, Reagan and Greyson Osterman.
A Memorial Service and Reception will be held Monday, February 6, 2017 from 10 am to Noon at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, 5100 Ross Ave, Dallas, TX. 75206
In lieu of flowers, which have been taken care of by the church, donations may be made in Joan’s name to St. Matthew’s Cathedral.
