Michael Eric Porschien passed away on September 6th, 2023 in Murphy, TX. He was born on July 8th, 1960 in San Jose, CA to Dorothy Mae Shropshire and Carl Arthur Porschien. Michael was raised in Wetumpka, Oklahoma and he later graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with his masters in Project Management in 1999.
He married Kathie Shae Mitchell on August 29th, 1995 and together they raised 4 children. Michael worked as an International Business Account Manager at Ricoh, where he worked for more than 3 years.
In his spare time, Michael enjoyed doting on his family, especially his grandbabies. He would always be there to babysit, to help wrangle during trips, soothe hurts, and to entertain with a light heart. He loved basketball, and played regularly with his friends from old jobs and college. Mike was a great forward, using his size and speed to his advantage. He was also a prolific gamer, often running multiple machines on the same game to maximize productivity. He was fond of using that medium to entertain, and also to stay in touch with friends and family. Everquest was his favorite, an aptly named game that spanned decades, and is a place for many to mourn his loss alongside us.
His family and friends will always remember him as the quintessential dad. His jokes were legendary, his patience near infinite, his demeanor calm and reassuring. Mike could be faced with any situation, and get straight to work, rather than spending his time stressing the details. He worked hard to meet his goals, and when the job was done he would immediately get back to the fun and games. Mike loved life, his family, and good food. He made sure to take time to enjoy life’s simple pleasures.
Michael is preceded in death by his wife Kathie Shae Mitchell. He is survived by his son, Michael Porschien; daughter, Lyndsay Porschien; brothers, Carl Allen Porschien Sr., Khristopher Ivan Porschien; and sister, Clair Ann Porschien.
He will be remembered for his passions:
Love as hard as you work. Be dedicated to your family, but keep your body moving.
Play with the same intensity and focus you would use navigating the most difficult moments of your life.
Work hard for what you want, be diligent, but always generous.
And lastly, tell jokes, even if the situation is hard. The world, he felt, was far too serious most of the time.
