Nancy Ann Nelson Pittman, a loving Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Teacher to many students, and Friend to all who she touched throughout her life, passed away the evening of November 27, 2025, in Plano, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents Ozzie and Ann and her brother Bill Nelson of Russellville. She is survived by her husband of 50 years Tom J. Pittman Jr, son Tom J Pittman III (Tripp) and wife Jill Dreiling Pittman, two grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne and Jackson Taylor of Celina, Texas, son Trent Nelson Pittman and Brandon McElvey of Denver, Colorado.
Nancy was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and brought home to Russellville, Arkansas by her loving adoptive parents Oscar “Ozzie” William and Ann Nelson to a great group of family and friends. Growing up Nancy was active in her community, participating in Girl Scouts and taking music lessons, which nurtured her life-long love for music. Nancy was active in the high school marching and symphonic bands, including being a majorette in the High School Marching Band. Nancy spent summers as a competitive swimmer for the local swim team and continued in college. Nancy was brought up in the Russellville Christian Church, where she was actively involved and taught Sunday School for several years as well as being married in the church on March 22, 1975.
Always an Arkansas Razorback, Nancy’s father Ozzie graduated from the University of Arkansas and went into education, as did her mother Ann, after graduating from Arkansas Tech, before bringing Baby Nancy home. It is no wonder that Nancy continued the family tradition, being a teacher herself for 39 years after graduating from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas with her Master’s degree in Elementary Education. Nancy taught in Atkins and Fayetteville, Arkansas (where she loved living in Razorback Country), Moore, Oklahoma, and finally retiring from teaching after 29 years with the Plano Independent School District in Texas.
Nancy’s career primarily focused on elementary and middle school education, where she touched many students’ lives in her classrooms. She also taught in various classrooms including Plano Senior High School, helping students graduate
during the summer and night classes. She loved sports, especially football, baseball, and basketball. She and her husband Tom spent many hours volunteering on the Board of the Plano Senior High School Booster Club to support the Plano Senior High School football teams, on which her sons played. Music also remained an area of enjoyment throughout her life.
Known as Nana to her two grandchildren, she made it to all their activities, usually bringing snacks and always bringing her team spirit. Her cheers will forever echo the many, many venues where she was able to see them perform, even as her illness progressed. She is remembered by family and teammates alike for her kindness and support.
Family and friends are invited to an informal visitation on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 5:00-7:00pm at the Ted Dickey West Funeral Home at 7990 President George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, TX 75252. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials should be to a charity of your choosing.
