Nancy was born August 14, 1958, in Bridgeport, CT, the youngest child and only daughter of David Schmidt Sr. and Roberta (Lyman) Schmidt. Nancy had two older brothers (David Schmidt Jr. and Tom Schmidt) whom she loved dearly and always looked up to.
Nancy graduated from Andrew Warde High School in 1976 and briefly attend Bridgeport University to study nursing and psychology.
In 1977 when she was 19, she met the love of her life and her best friend Steven Lockwood, during a chance encounter driving down the street and stopping at a traffic light. Nancy was with her friends Debbie and Barbara, and Steven was with Nicky and Gary - and the rest is history. Nancy and Steven married on July 31,1982 in Bridgeport, CT and celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary before her passing.
Nancy and Steven moved from Connecticut to Dallas-Fort Worth (Euless) TX in 1988 for Nancy’s career. Nancy excelled in her field and began as receptionist, eventually becoming an IT Project Manager for Verizon. Nancy retired from Verizon in 2015 after over 25 years of service to the company.
Nancy and Steven always dreamed of having a family. After struggling for many years with fertility issues, Nancy gave birth to her only child, Monica Marie Lockwood, on February 4, 1997. Nancy loved and supported Monica and made sure to foster her bright spirit throughout her life by encouraging her to pursue her dreams of being on stage and supporting her throughout dance, singing, and theatre lessons. After the passing of Nancy’s sister-in-law (Giselle Schmidt) in 2003, she invited her brother’s two children, Jasmine and Max, to live with her, Monica, and Steven for a few years. During this time, Nancy temporarily had three children, and looked after them with as much love and care as any mother would.
One of Nancy’s greatest strengths was making a friend out of a stranger. She was able to have fun and find joy in any situation. She was ferociously independent, strong, and quick-witted. She was also a lover of the arts, music, and film.
Nancy also had a passion for nurturing others, and this included all types of animals. Nancy owned many dogs and cats throughout her life. One of her earliest memories was her cat named Bootsie. When she first moved to Texas, she owned two more cats, Tiffany and Silver, and her beloved American Eskimo dog, Crystal. After she had Monica, Nancy rescued 3 more cats (Carmine, Alice, and Dorothy), and 4 dogs (Rusty, Eva, Diamond, and Kroy). She is survived by Kroy, while her other fur babies are waiting to greet her on the rainbow bridge.
Nancy was a blessing to her friends and her family, and she will be missed dearly.
Nancy is preceded in death by her father David Schmidt Sr., her mother Roberta Schmidt, her brother David Schmidt Jr, and her sister-in-law Giselle Schmidt. She is survived by her husband Steven Lockwood, her daughter Monica Lockwood and her partner George Najera, her brother Thomas Schmidt, her nephew Max Schmidt, and her niece Jasmine Schmidt and her fiancé Ross Pendley.
The family will have a private ceremony to honor her life. Please share any photos or stories that you had with Nancy. Donations in her honor may be made to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or the American Cancer Society.
