Neta Kenney Thompson formerly of Albany, Georgia died February 27, 2013 in Plano, Texas. She was born March 3, 1920 to the late William Jefferson Kenney and Sara Hayes Kenney and spent her childhood in Blakely, Georgia. She married Robert L. Thompson on October 6, 1940 and they traveled the world together during his 30 year career in the Air Force. They lived in Japan just after the end of World War II. Other favorite locations included Spain, Myrtle Beach, S. C. and back to Albany to Turner Field as often as he could get orders to be stationed there. Though she lived a lot of places, she was happiest at the farm in Blakely, especially in the summer when she could sit on the back porch with family and shell peas and butterbeans. She had an indefatigable spirit and the word “tired” was never in her vocabulary even later in life. She found true joy being a grandmother and great-grandmother, always a willing and energetic playmate in any and all of the grandchildren’s activities.
She is survived by one of her seven siblings, Addie Mallory, and was preceded in death by Annette Chandler; Ethel Frith; Clara Williams; and Murrill, Richard and Hoyt Kenney. She is also survived by her son, Bob Thompson and his wife Carol of Plano, TX; two grandchildren, Alicia Wanek and husband Brad of Plano, TX and Matt Thompson and wife Stacey of Austin, TX; and six great grandchildren, Erin, Kate, Colin and Sarah Wanek and Slaid and Stella Thompson.
Services will be Monday, March 4, 2013 in Blakely. Visitation will be from 10 - 11AM at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at the Blakely Cemetery at 11:30AM.
