Nicholas Stephen Shankle (Nick) born December 17, 1987, and died on January 17, 2012, just one month after his 24th birthday. Nick is survived by his father and stepmother, Steve and Lara Shankle of Richardson and Nick’s mother and stepfather and three sisters and many, many other family and friends.
Nick had a gift and a love for “sitting and talking" and helping others through many of their own personal struggles. Nick was a wonderful listener and he gave his time to many people in his life on countless occasions, which was appreciated by many. He had recently decided to become a full time student and was pursuing his degree in Psychology. From an early age, Nick was especially compassionate toward those who were less fortunate, and would go to great lengths to try to find ways to make their lives better. He had a genuine desire to help them in any way he could. Over the years Nick spent a great deal of quality time helping people who were sick and infirmed by working alongside his father in the family business. Nick got to know a lot of these people personally and developed meaningful relationships with them over the years. He found great personal satisfaction in knowing he was brightening someone else’s day just by being there for them or lending a helping hand.
Nick loved to spend quality time in nature fishing and hunting. He was on a bowling league, was a great golfer and loved to play golf with his dad and uncles. Nick cherished his “special” time with his sisters who affectionately called him “bubba”. He loved the adventure of change and chose to attend multiple schools over the years where he met and made many great friends. He will be missed by many.
