Stephen Wayne Mudd, age 66 of Plano, TX, passed away Tuesday April 14, 2015 of sudden heart failure while vacationing in southern California with the wind in his hair, the sun shining down, and a smile on his face.
Born in Louisville, KY on January 11, 1949, Steve was the son of Walter J. and Marion V. Mudd, and the first of two children.
Steve attained the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL in 1971 where he pledged Alpha Delta Gamma Fraternity.
An astute businessman, Steve’s successful insurance career spanned over 30 years – where he excelled at building relationships with his co-workers and agents. Much of his success can be attributed to his gift of enjoying life and people – even in the face of demanding expectations.
Steve began his career with Continental Insurance in Kentucky and later Economy Fire & Casualty in Illinois, before moving to Plano – where he served as VP of Marketing & Field Operations with the Republic Group.
He possessed a keen wit and phenomenal sense of humor with the world as his stage.
Steve traveled extensively for work and pleasure, and after taking early retirement, he pursued a series of adventures in a motor home named “The Crystal Ship”, with Jeep and Harley in tow. Steve enjoyed quality time with family and friends, and was a scratch golfer and ace tennis player.
On April 21, 1979 Steve married the love of his life Kathleen (Kathy) S. Mudd (née Straub) in Louisville, KY.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
