

Ethel Lee Newson-Winchester was born on June 10, 1942 on Ben Smith Island in Natchitoches Parish Louisiana, to John Henry and Julia Clarena Newson. As a young girl Ethel began her lasting relationship with the Lord God. Ethel attended both St. Johns Baptist, and Good Hope Baptist Church in Powhatan, Louisiana. Ethel attended the Powhatan School System, under the leadership of Ms. Pearl, and Mr. Payne, a husband-and-wife team that was assigned to education. After the family left the Island and moved to Shreveport, Louisiana Ethel gave her life to Christ and served at Union Star Baptist Church, under the Leadership of Reverend G. W. Odums. Ethel met, fell in love, and married Edward McGlothurn. In the early sixties, Ethel and Edward with their two young son's Alvin, and Edward Jr, left Louisiana for Los Angeles, California where Ethel continued her walk with the lord, joining Truce Grace Baptist Church, under the Leadership of Reverend JJ Jones. Two additional children were born to the union Robert and Lorie prior to the end of the marriage.
In 1982, Ethel met a man known to everyone as Winchester. Ethel moved to Delano, California, and found love again, marrying William Winchester in 1983. Ethel and William raised six children together Frankie, Shade, Angelita, Shawantale, James and Ulysses. Ethel was employed with the Delano and Allensworth School District for many years as a kitchen cook until she retired in 2000. Ethel became a member of First Baptist Church under the Leadership of Reverend JJ Freeman for many years. Ethel moved her membership to Friendship Baptist Church under the Leadership of Reverend Robert Daniels. Ethel remained a faithful member until the lord called her home. Ethel's favorite pastimes included fishing, sewing, gardening; she was a super fan of WWE, WWF, thrifting, and cooking. If you didn't catch her before five o'clock on Monday or Wednesday before her wrestling was on she would tell you I'll get back my wrestling on. She always called back to let you know how the match turned out.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry, and Julia Newson. Both of her husbands, Edward McGlothurn, and William Winchester. One son-in-law, Ronald Williams. Two grandchildren, Marcus McGlothurn, and Isaiah Staples. Two great-great grandchildren, Aluv McGlothurn, and Deandra Fields. Her brothers, June Newson, Jimmie Newson, Henry (Coudie) Newson, Alonzo Newson, Fred (Larry) Newson Augusta (Dillie) Newson, Ben (Joseph) Newson, Edward Charles Newson, James (Curly) Newson. Her sisters, Ola Mae Newson, Berta Newson, and Ruth Newson- Bailey. Four sister-in-laws, Henrietta Newson, Emma Jean Newson, Gertrude Newson, and Helen Lee Newson. Ethel leaves to mourn her passing : seven son's Alvin Williams Sr., Edward McGlothurn Jr, Robert McGlothurn Sr., Frankie Ortiz, Shade Staples, James and Ulysses Perkins, Two daughters : Lorie Ann McGlothurn Williams, Shawantale Perry. One brother, Donzell Newson, of Shreveport, Louisiana. One daughter in-law Maribel Staples, Ethel has thirty-eight grandchildren, thirty-nine great-great grandchildren, and four great-great-great grandchildren. Ethel has a host of relatives and friends.
