Prior to Marriage she was a nurse in the VFW with Cesar Chavez, she was proactive in the cause for equality for all farm Laborers.
Married on August 14, 1971 to Jesus R. Martinez
After marrying she worked in Farm Labor for many years. She continued her education and began working again as a nurse for Tulare District Hospital for twelve years, followed by an additional three years in a nursing home.

Mary loved her role in the church, where she lead the Women’s Ministries, worked behind the scenes assisting her husband, the pastor and enjoyed fellowship with her church family. She enjoyed attending women conferences and church events.
Her four sisters met regularly in what she called, “La Junta de las Hermana’s”, where they enjoyed talking, eating, laughing and sharing the events in each other’s lives. Her sisters were her best friends and she talked often about their youthful adventures.
Her children and grandchildren enjoyed her company. They spent many hours at her house and on the phone with her. She was funny, playful, and loved talking about them to anyone who would listen.
She was a devoted wife and was married for 43 years. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
